ACTION

2)         Minutes of previous meeting were proposed by Angela and seconded by Jackie. Tony therefore signed these as a true record. There were no matters arising.

3)      ChairmanÕs Report:

Tony announced that he was pleased to say there had been more successes than failures, a list of which follows.

Successes: The cutting of grass areas within the village, free of charge, had been negotiated; verges encroaching pathways had been haphazardly done but should now be on a yearly rota; provision of a dog litter bin; footpaths had been investigated and reported back to County Council; war memorial – not only are the names now legible but the crumbling structure around the base has been repaired. (Thanks must go to Sonia Lewis for looking after the small garden area surrounding the memorial.); Poppy Appeal – door-to-door collection had raised £157.57 and a short, non-religious ceremony had been held commemorating Remembrance Day; steering group has been set up to produce a Village Plan – a questionnaire will shortly be distributed to all households within the village, asking that they fill in and return in order to ensure everyoneÕs opinion has been incorporated. Thanks were given to City of Ely Council for a grant and HiamÕs Sports & Social Club for holding a bingo even to raise funds.

Failures:  Perennial problem of speeding still exists, particularly just before and after village boundaries where 60mph is the norm for some drivers. Local council and police are not interested because not enough people have been killed.

Tony mentioned that this was his last report and he noted that it was probable that St PeterÕs Church would close. He commented that it was a great shame because it would make a beautiful arts & crafts centre. Could the Conservation Officer be approached regarding possible preservation for future village use?
