2)         Minutes of 5 November 2007 had been sent to City Of Ely Council and were read aloud by Tony.

  Matters Arising:

It has been discovered, via the Land Registry who owns  the derelict land at the top end of Kingdon Avenue How we will proceed in this matter will be explored at a future date.

Jackie said that she had spoken with someone from ECDC regarding the cutting of various grassed areas in the village. She will organise a site visit with Pat L and the aforementioned ECDC employee, when a price will be quoted for the work to be done. We shall consider this at the next meeting.

3)             Jean had issued reports in advance to all members of her attendance at        council meetings.

There is currently a great deal going on, mainly involving out of town shopping which ECDC do not wish to see happen. They are awaiting a Master Plan which was to be concluded after Christmas.

In the New Year, both Jackie and Jean will be taking part in a Neighbourhood panel; this is being rolled out across East Cambs. It is hoped that it will encourage local residents to take part in local issues.

It has been noticed that the 30mph sign coming into Main Street is not working. The Clerk has been asked to write to Highways requesting this be fixed.

Jean has chased installation of the Dog Bin as this has not yet appeared.

4)      Matters for discussion:

i)            War Memorial Funding; a gentleman called Peter (resident at Riverside Close) approached Tony at the War Memorial celebration, offering to pay for renovation of the War Memorial. He was supposed to email Tony but has failed to do so. A notice to be placed in the Messenger, asking for him to come forward. It was suggested that there be an Easter Bingo session to raise funds, not just for the War Memorial funding but also for grassing cutting.  Pat L is to ask the committee at Hiam for permission to do this.

ii)      We are now members of ACRE who will help us draft a village plan. This will enable us to attract more funding besides having a plan to follow. Jo Fitzpatrick is attending the March meeting to help us with this.

iii)     Jackie updated us about grass cutting: this will be cut (when it is the cutting season) outside Corner Close and along the Village War Memorial every 14 days; all other open green spaces to be cut at 28 day intervals. Lark Bank is not included in this; Jackie and Pat have asked/will ask ECDC to consider including Lark Bank in this scheme. Grass will be cut three times a year in all places not covered by this scheme. Pat remarked that cars had observed the request to keep the green clear alongside Corner Close. ECDC to be contacted confirming new grass cutting arrangements only after funds have been raised. A sub committee should be organized to raise funds; Tony, Jackie, Pat and Angela volunteered. They arranged to meet up at the end of the meeting to discuss fund-raising.

iv)        Community Shop – Tony and Jean are members of CPRE which plans to encourage villages to start community shops. To start this, a public meeting needs to be held in the village and if people are interested (50% of households) this scheme can then go ahead.

vi)       Footpaths will be investigated; Pat and Mike will report back at the March meeting. Blockages to be identified and the committee informed after speaking to county officials and gaining the relevant information.

vii)      Jackie is still awaiting biographies which are needed to be added to the site, letting all know about members of the council.

Tony thanked all for attending; the meeting closed at 9.00pm

Date of next meeting– 3 March 2008 at 8pm in the Village Hall.

After the close of the Meeting, David Simpson, a newcomer to the village, volunteered to join the council as a full member. We were very pleased to accept his offer and note that we are now up to full strength with 12 members.

It should also be noted that since the last meeting Bob Matley had also asked to be a member. He and his wife have attended several meetings and we are very pleased that what he has seen and heard has obviously convinced him that he should be a part of what is going on.
